O level Urdu (IGCSE)
The O Level (IGCSE) Urdu as a second language paper is designed to develop proficiency in the Urdu language, fostering a deeper understanding of its rich literary and cultural heritage. This course helps students enhance their reading, writing, and speaking skills while promoting critical thinking through the study of classical and modern Urdu literature.
O Level Urdu (IGCSE) includes Paper 1, Paper 2 and optional Paper 5 components.
Paper 1
Reading and Writing
Duration: 2 hours
Total marks: 60
- Written examination consisting of six exercises
that test a range of reading and writing skills. - The task types are: short answer questions, multiple
matching, note-making, summary writing, functional writing and extended writing.
Paper 2
Listening
Duration: 35-45 minutes
Total marks: 30
- Written examination consisting of four exercises that test listening skills.
- Candidates listen to recordings of short and longer spoken texts. The task types are: short answer questions, gap-fill sentences, multiple matching and multiple-choice questions.
Paper 5 (Optional)
Speaking
Duration: 10–12 minutes
Total marks: 60
The Speaking test consists of three parts:
candidates give a two- to three-minute
presentation, followed by a short discussion with the examiner about the presentation, followed by a short conversation with the examiner about general topics.
